BAMSAR MINUTES

Minutes of the September, 2003, BAMSAR meeting, held at Eastport. Thanks to Chief Schneyer for his hospitality.

Present: Bellport, South Country, Mastic, Center Moriches, Group Moriches, Eastport, Westhampton Beach and Southampton Chiefs.
Excused: None.

A Moment of Silence was held for the victims of the 9-11 attacks.

Two Proclamations for Community Service were presented by legislator George Guldi; the first to Firefighter Damon Vogel, of the Eastport FD, and the second to BAMSAR. President Tim Dahlen accepted on behalf of BAMSAR. Congratulations to Damon, and to the organization. Our thanks, also, to Legislator Guldi.

Old Business: Light Salvage course cancelled. We couldn't get enough people to fill the spots. Westhampton Beach will hold a course in the spring, open to the group.
A training calendar is badly needed, as we haven't been training with each other as much as we'd like. It would also help out filling out courses, such as the one above.
Paperwork has been sent up to the FASNY Credit Union.

New Business:
Tom Fleming has informed us that, due to family obligations, he will not be able to take on the duties of Vice President next year, and asked that we consider a replacement for him. He will also train Bill Biondi on the up-keep of the website. He asked that we continue to send him the minutes, which the Secretary will do.
A motion was made, seconded, and carried, to join the Firemen's Association of the State of New York, and to pay dues of $20.
Tim asked if anyone had pictures and links to their department/company/unit websites that could be sent to him for inclusion on the Westhampton Beach FD website. He's asking not only for pictures, but, for team histories, biographies of it's members (if possible), equipment you might have, etc. In addition, he'd like to see these links, photos, and maybe some "action reports" put onto BAMSAR's website, in order to showcase what it is we do.
All South Country, Eastport, Mastic, and Center Moriches boats are defibrillator equipped, and now respond with an EMT or an ALS Medic aboard on all calls.
On the subject of defibrillators- Dennis Casey was given some information and a contact number for the County EMS people. He's going to see if Todd had talked to Commander Healey about a pilot AED program at the Group, and what Commander Healey's feelings are on the subject. We've offered to help, if they'd like.
South Country has offered to do the training.

Training:
23 September, at 1930 hrs: Tender, scribe, and search rope training at Center Moriches Firehouse. All welcome.
13 November, at 1930 hrs: Defibrillator training at the Mastic Firehouse (at the November BAMSAR meeting). All welcome.

Next meeting: Bayport, Thursday, 09 October, 2003, at 1930.

Any corrections, additions, or questions; please contact the Secretary.

Respectfully,
John Foley

Please note the following correction to September's
minutes: Brookhaven FD was inadvertently left off the
"Excused" list.
