BAMSAR MINUTES


Minutes of the May, 2003, BAMSAR meeting, held at Westhampton Beach. Thanks to Chief Tim Dahlen for his hospitality.

Present: Patchogue, Mastic, Center Moriches, Group Moriches, Westhampton Beach.
Excused: None.

Old Business: Dive Rescue 1 discussed. Congratulations to the 15 students who took the course. Some minor problems arose with respect to individual diver experience and training, and some equipment problems arose as well. All were addressed.
Dive Rescue 2 level classes: Light Salvage: 13-15 September, 2003. Everything moving along. So far, 14 are committed, with one more possible. Final numbers from this organization must be in at the July (10th) monthly meeting. Invitations will be sent out to other agencies, giving them until 15 July to respond. Classes will then be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
We could use some manpower to help with incidental work details associated with hosting the DR 2 course. If anyone is planning to attend in order to help out, please let Tim Dahlen know. Thanks.

New Business:
The Coast Guard will not be hosting an open house for Boating Safety Week. Instead, they will be doing a community outreach, in conjunction with the Auxiliary, at different marinas on the 17th of May, weather permitting. All units are invited to bring their equipment and show it off to the public. Group will get back to us on the locations.
The Group is looking into a "ferry accident" drill for later this summer, in Great South Bay.
Secretary sent out requests for updates to the Equipment Resource List. Please return them as soon as possible. Thanks.
A suggestion was made to equip Group with a scanner, on our local FD frequencies, so that they can know when we get dispatched for any water-related incidents, or, so they can be aware of incidents near the water. (For example: A recent controlled burn at Wertheim Wildlife Refuge was thought to be a boat fire, when first seen from Station Fire Island.)

Training:
Other than the DR 1, DR 2, and Boating Safety Week- none to report.
