BAMSAR MINUTES

Minutes of the March, 2003, BAMSAR meeting, held at Coast Guard Group Moriches. Thanks to Cmdr. Nelson, Lt(jg) Sennick, and Ens. Coffman for their hospitality.

Present: Patchogue, Bellport, South Country, Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches, Group Moriches, Eastport, Westhampton Beach.
Excused: None.

Old Business: Discussion was continued on the Dive Rescue 1 course. So far, we have commitments from the following: Bayport, 3; Patchogue, 4; Mastic, 3; Center Moriches, 3; Mastic Beach, 1; Westhampton Beach, 2.
Dive Rescue 2 level classes: Light Salvage: 13-15 September, 2003, cost $325/man. So far, the following units have people committed: Bellport, 1; Mastic, 3; Mastic Beach, 3; Westhampton Beach, 7. Center Moriches is tentative with 1, pending approval.
We could use some manpower to help with incidental work details associated with hosting the DR 1 course. If anyone is planning to attend in order to help out, please let Tim Dahlen, Tom Fleming, Bill Biondi or Craig Diaz know. Thanks.

New Business:
Welcome to Ensign B.J. Coffman. He will be relieving Marc Sennick as Assistant Operations Officer, sometime later this year.
Our website has been transferred to a new company. A check for $240 has been made out for the payment for the site, and it should be back up and running soon.
Money has been found in a now defunct (or, so we thought) account, held in our name, amounting to around $600. This will be withdrawn and added to the new account that the Treasurer was authorized to set up at Teachers Federal Credit Union.
Hypothermia class is on hold, and may be worked into either the Ice or Surface Rescue courses.
The Coast Guard will be hosting an open house for Boating Safety Week on either the 17th or 24th of May (date isn't firm, yet), weather permitting. All units are invited to bring their equipment and show it off to the public. A suggestion was put forward by the Coast Guard that we make this a drill day with them, so that all of us had a chance to see and work with each other's equipment.
Secretary sent out requests for updates to the Equipment Resource List. Please return them as soon as possible. Thanks.
Tim, Paul, Todd and Marc gave a short narrative and critique on the water rescue response to aid Hampton Bays FD at the Shinnecock Canal. Despite the bone-chilling cold, and some minor glitches, the mission went fairly well.

Training:
None scheduled for this month.

Next meeting: Center Moriches, Thursday, 10 April, 2003, at 1930.

Any corrections, additions, or questions; please contact the Secretary.

Respectfully,
John Foley
Secretary
