BAMSAR MINUTES

Minutes of the April monthly meeting, held at North Patchogue. Thanks to Chief Gonnelly and his Assistant Chiefs for their hospitality.

Excused: Brookhaven, Mastic, Mastic Beach.

Training: The night started off with a very informative presentation by QMCS Pete Hocking, (Group Moriches) on search patterns used by the Coast Guard. The presentation included the development and use of search patterns, language associated with them, how far an object can be seen in most conditions, etc. The Secretary has a copy of the training materials, if anyone wishes to have them sent to them.

Business: A short meeting followed the presentation, with the following business discussed:
Dive Rescue International class; 3,4, & 5 May. We have 19 of the 20 people needed to get the course going. Anyone interested in that last spot, please contact Tim Dahlen at TSDahlen@aol.com, or leave a message at 325-8333. The first day of the course will be held in the Mastic Beach F.D. (classroom), and the Mastic YMCA Pool.
The second and third days will be held in Westhampton Beach, at Taylor's Hole, just off the Le Ronde Beach Club marina on Dune Road, just west of the bridge.
A motion was advanced for BAMSAR to refund to the unit that hosts a BAMSAR training, of any kind, the cost of food and refreshments used for that training.
A second motion was advanced for any money given back to the BAMSAR, in the form of rebates for training, etc., remain property of the BAMSAR.
Tentatively scheduled a Dive Rescue 2 class for the following dates:
September 13, 14, & 15, and October 11, 12, & 13. Please note that these two weekends are the first and second parts of the one class. They were scheduled this way for ease and convenience of those who cannot get the normal 5-day class period off. We need 20 people to take this course. John to ask Tom Helinski (Chief, Southold FD), if he would be interested in sending some people from the North Fork. Names of those interested must be to Tim Dahlen, (e-mail: TSDahlen@aol.com) no less than 45 days prior to the class. Class subjects will include swift current diving, and some sort of penetration/under-pier work.

Upcoming Drills:
Ponquogue Bridge. Sunday, 28 April. Meet at Westhampton Beach FD at 0800. High tide is 0957.
Anyone interested in a proposed dive at Southold, contact Tim Dahlen.
