BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the January, 2003, BAMSAR meeting, held at Mastic Beach. Thanks to Chief Biondi and Tom Fleming for
their hospitality.
Present: Bayport, Patchogue, South Country, Bellport, Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches, Group Moriches, Eastport,
Westhampton Beach.
Excused: None.
Old Business: Discussion was continued on the Dive Rescue 1 course. Center Moriches asked if the dates could be
moved back to June, as done last year, due to the fact that the group of divers now in training can't get into
the open water part of the basic course, due to weather. Tim will talk to Randy about accommodating these divers
so they can participate in the course.
Rescue swimmer course at BNL has been postponed until the end of February, to give teams more time to get people
into the course.
We could use some manpower to help with incidental work details associated with hosting the DR 1 course. If anyone
is planning to attend in order to help out, please let Tim Dahlen, Tom Fleming, or John Foley know. Thanks.
New Business: By unanimous vote, the December meeting has been dropped from the calendar, as it conflicts with
most of our member departments' Chief's elections.
The incoming Treasurer has been granted the authority to close our Chase bank account, and deposit those funds
in an interest bearing checking account at Teacher's Federal Credit Union. Currently, Chase is assessing us an
"Analysis Fee" each month because we "don't write enough checks" (their words). Checking is
free at TFCU, no matter how many checks are/are not written.
Coast Guard Group Moriches is now in the process of "Relieving the Watch." Todd will be relieved within
the next few months; Tim Haws, as well. Marc goes in mid summer, and Pete Hocking will be piped into retirement.
We wish them "All the Best," and look forward to working with the new Commander, Ops Boss, Assistant
Ops, and Ops Chief.
