BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the February, 2003, BAMSAR meeting, held at Brookhaven. Thanks to Chiefs Vaz and Fink for their hospitality.
Present: Bayport, Patchogue, Bellport, Brookhaven, Mastic, Center Moriches, Group Moriches, Westhampton Beach.
Excused: Mastic Beach.
Old Business: Discussion was continued on the Dive Rescue 1 course. Host agreements were signed. Course will run
from Friday, 2 May, to Sunday, 4 May. Times will be 0800-1700. Cost $300/man. Points of contact for this class
are Bill Biondi (Mastic Beach) and Craig Diaz (Mastic). Those taking part in the underwater portion of the class
must be certified basic open water divers, or higher. Those taking part in the surface support portion of the class,
need not be divers. This class is already advertised, so get your personnel signed up before the class reaches
the maximum 20 people! Sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis. So far, we have commitments from the following:
Bayport, 3; Patchogue, 3; Mastic, 3; Center Moriches, 3; Eastport, 3. Departments wishing to establish a voucher
system with Dive Rescue International, can contact them directly, using the address, printed in bold letters at
the bottom of these minutes.
Dive Rescue 2 level classes: Light Salvage: 13-15 September, 2003, cost $325/man. Swift Water/Current: 11-13
October, 2003, cost $300/man.
Rescue swimmer course at BNL has been postponed until the beginning of March. Date TBA.
We could use some manpower to help with incidental work details associated with hosting the DR 1 course. If anyone
is planning to attend in order to help out, please let Tim Dahlen, Tom Fleming, or John Foley know. Thanks.
New Business: Our website has been transferred to a new company. A check for $200 has been made out for the payment
for the site, and it should be back up and running soon.
Rich Magale has been authorized to set up an account at Teacher's Federal Credit Union. He was further authorized
to take $50 from the checking account to start a savings account at the Credit Union. (This $50 is required to
be put in the savings as a "minimum balance", in order to a free, interest-bearing, checking account.)
The Chase account will be closed as soon as the check for the website clears.
Any team looking to post their water rescue training schedule on the website, please send your information to
Tom Fleming at TomF@Moonbeamsatellite.com so he can post it.
The Coast Guard will be hosting an open house for Boating Safety Week on either the 17th or 24th of May (date
isn't firm, yet), weather permitting.
Secretary will be sending out requests for updates to the Equipment Resource List shortly. We hope to get these
on the web, as well.
Brookhaven is now engaged in rebuilding their team. Any support we can give them will be appreciated.
