BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the July, 2008, BAMSAR meeting, held at Bellport. Thanks to the Bellport FD Dive Team members for their hospitality.
Present: Bellport, Brookhaven and Center Moriches.
Excused: Hagerman, Mastic Beach, and South Country, due to alarms; Bayport and Patchogue, due to boat race safety committee meeting; and Ed Michels (EHTMP), Jim Bowra (SCSD) and Coast Guard.
Old Business:
Boat Operator’s Course: No report. John F. will call Ed Michels in the coming week.
Dive Rescue Course: Jim Bowra is now able to give the course, but we will need to ask him what would be a good date to hold it. John will do that, this week, as well. It looks like we may have 15+ members for the course. As soon as we get a date from Jim, all prospective trainees’ dive team leaders will be notified.
New Business:
Bills, totaling $2,039.55, were paid. Of these, $1,750.15 went to Dive Rescue International, for course materials; $239.40 to ValueWeb, for our website; and a $50.00 donation to Hagerman FD.
The races held on Great South Bay last year, will be held again this year, on the 23rd and 24th of August. So far, the preliminary meeting has been held, and there will be four rescue boats in the center of the course. In the event of an accident, the closest two boats will assist, and South Country will provide the patient care/transport.
The organizers intend to have their own rescue boats there, as well. We have offered to give the departments involved, whatever support they needed. There will be an estimated 3000 spectator boats for both the time trials on the 23rd, and the race on the 24th.
Discussions were started on a claim, by a department outside BAMSAR, that they should be called, prior to any BAMSAR unit, for calls in Moriches Inlet. Since no information was available, as to the intent of the claim, the matter was tabled until the next meeting, in September.
Any unit who wishes to host the September meeting, please notify the Secretary as soon as possible. Thanks.

Training:
Center Moriches- Department dive drill on 27 July.
Hampton Dive Center- Instructor Development Course: 25, 26, 27 July (Assistant Instructor); 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 August (OWSI). Cost: $1495, plus academic materials and PADI fees.
