BAMSAR MINUTES

Minutes of the October, 2007, BAMSAR meeting, held at Bayport. Thanks to Barry Lipsky and Jim Rice for their hospitality.

Present: Bayport, Bellport, Mastic, and Center Moriches.

Excused: Hagerman, Ed Michels (EHTMP), Jim Bowra (SCSD), Coast Guard, and Brookhaven.

Old Business:

No quorum for September meeting. Meeting was cancelled.

Coast Guard boat operator class: Still at issue is documentation from the Coast Guard, showing that we took the class. Secretary was directed to send a letter to Sector Long Island Sound, seeking an answer, as to why we haven’t heard from them, on this.

New Business:

A suggestion was made by Barry Lipsky, to have a guest speaker at each meeting. This would improve attendance at meetings and stir new interest in the organization. This proposal was favorably received, and we intend to follow through with this, starting at the January, 2008 meeting. More details will be posted later.

A suggestion was made to have the BAMSAR Board (and any other interested members) meet with each team and their Chiefs, to explain what BAMSAR is about, and to renew interest in the organization. As this hasn’t been done in a while, the members in attendance thought it would be a good idea to begin again.

A third proposal concerning the organization’s future was withdrawn, before discussion, and no further action was taken on it.

Training:

Mastic: 21 and 28 October; Dive in Moriches Bay. All welcome. Contact Bob Sarmiento for more info, at 281-2022 (Mastic firehouse).

Bayport: February, 2008; Annual ice rescue course. All welcome. Contact Barry Lipsky (e-mail: Barry@Lipskyenterprises.com) for more info.
