BAMSAR MINUTES

Minutes of the November, 2007, BAMSAR meeting, held at Mastic. Thanks to Lt. Jim Mickert and Craig Diaz for their hospitality.

Present: Brookhaven, Bellport, Mastic, Mastic Beach and Center Moriches.

Excused: Hagerman, Ed Michels (EHTMP), Jim Bowra (SCSD), Coast Guard, Tim Dahlen and Bill Biondi.

Old Business:

Coast Guard boat operator class: Letter sent to Sector Long Island Sound. No reply as of yet.

More discussion was held on improving attendance at meetings. The suggestion to have a speaker at our meetings (from last month’s meeting) was well received. Additional suggestions from this month’s meeting include: Planning for more group drills; group field trips to shows, diving venues, etc.; summer picnic at Great Gun; boat drills, etc. Group drills could be planned at the meetings, and the drills could be held either that month, or during the intervening month, between meetings.

New Business:

A motion was made, seconded, and carried, to reduce our meeting schedule to every-other-month, beginning with our January, 2008 meeting. The schedule would then be March, May, July, September and November. The March meeting would be used to plan the annual Dive Rescue 1 course.

Elections will be held at the January meeting. Anyone wishing to run for President, Vice President, or Secretary-Treasurer, should be present at that meeting.

We need to look into scheduling of the pool for the DR 1 class, within the next couple of months.

Craig has also volunteered to look into scheduling the BNL pool for a pool dive on a Sunday in January. As is usual protocol for the Lab’s pool, we’ll need names of those attending, at least one (1) week prior to the dive, to put you on the access list. You will need a form of picture ID, for the gate guard on the day of the dive.

Training:
