BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the June, 2006, BAMSAR meeting, held at Bellport. Thanks to Bellport’s Dive Team for their hospitality.
Present: Bellport, Brookhaven, Mastic, Center Moriches, and Tim Dahlen.
Excused: Ed Michels (EHTMP).
Old Business:
Dive Rescue 1 course was discussed. Tim expressed disappointment that the course was cancelled, and the reasons for the cancellation. We’ll try one more time, possibly over the Columbus Day weekend (06-09 October). If anyone is interested, please e-mail the Secretary, at: o_foghladha@yahoo.com, by 14 July, so we can get this moving along again.
New Business:
Dive Rescue call at Wading River was discussed. Brookhaven would like to do some drills with the north shore teams, in order to get familiar with them.
John Foley has been in conversation with Senior Chief Ed Michels, of the East Hampton Town Marine Patrol, regarding surf entry training for boat operators (this would also include our inlet). He’s willing to set up a meeting to find out what our needs are, and set up a program for us. Anyone interested in the course that he teaches, please e-mail the Secretary at: o_foghladha@yahoo.com, by 14 July. John will be in contact with Ed in the interim.
Bellport’s Chief was interested in how we got activated. We explained the way we used to do it, and what other options, including zones, that we’d looked at. Right now, county activates the district/department nearest the incident, and then the Chief of that first responding department, will call his mutual aid from there. Some departments have automatic mutual aid agreements with surrounding dive teams. In that county only recognizes us as an “advisory/training” group, we recommended mutual aid agreements, at this point in time.

Training:
Brookhaven is planning a training dive at Dutch Springs, Pa., on the 17th of June. They have several teams interested, and all teams are invited. They will be meeting at 0500, at Brookhaven FD Station 1, Camp Upton Rd. (behind Boston Market, one light west of the Floyd, off Montauk Hwy.).
If anyone has, or knows of, any training going on that may be of interest to the membership, please feel free to send notice of the training to either the BAMSAR webmaster@bamsar.org, or to the Secretary, at o_foghladha@yahoo.com.
