January BAMSAR MINUTES

Minutes of the January, 2006, BAMSAR meeting, held at Mastic Beach. Thanks to Tom Montreuil for his hospitality.

Present: Bayport, Patchogue, Hagerman, Bellport, Brookhaven, Mastic, Mastic Beach, Center Moriches and Tim Dahlen.
Excused: None.


Old Business:

Dive Rescue 1 course in May. Dates are 19, 20, 21, but, we are going to try and see if we can get the course adjusted to Thursday and Friday nights, then all day Saturday/Sunday. We need 15 people, as a minimum. Please bring this info back to your departments “early and often”, to keep it fresh in member’s minds. Cost is approximately $250/man.



New Business:
Members were asked to go back to their teams to find out what type of training they would like to see from LifeGuard Systems, this coming fall.

Discussion was held on the Coast Guard command being moved to New Haven. John F. was asked to go to Commander Healey and see if we can set up a transition team, of sorts, to introduce ourselves to his successor, and keep the Coast Guard/BAMSAR partnership.

Elections were held. The officers for the year 2006 are:
President: Tim Dahlen
Vice President: Bill Biondi
Secretary/Treasurer: John Foley

Scott P. demonstrated a new prototype of quick rescue pack, designed for surface swimmers or other public safety personnel to don over their street clothes and drop in for a quick grab. The pack is from Global Secure Safety Products. It weighs approximately 10 pounds, has a 15 minute air supply, a quick-inflate collar, pouches for 10-15 pounds of weight, and can be put on in about 30 seconds. Currently, the cost is around $1000, but may drop, as more units are produced.

Patchogue has a new 37 foot fire/dive boat. The unit isn’t yet in service, but can be called, if necessary. Vessel has a 500 gpm fire pump, space for two patients in the cabin, a drop-down dive door in the bow, and a navigational draft of 27 inches. She was built by Thomas Marine, of Patchogue.

Training:

Bayport will again be hosting the Ice Rescue Class (Part 1), on 28 and 29 January, 2006. Be sure to mark this on your calendar……
