APRIL BAMSAR MINUTES

 

Minutes of the April, 2006, BAMSAR meeting, held at Center Moriches.

 

 

Present: Patchogue, Hagerman, Brookhaven, Mastic, Center Moriches, and Tim Dahlen.

Excused: Bellport.

           

 

Old Business:

 

Dive Rescue 1 course in May. Dates are 18, 19, 20, and 21. We are going to try and see if we can get the classes started at 1800, on Thursday and Friday nights, to get in as much class time as possible. Saturday/Sunday times will be the usual starting time of 0730. We have 17 people signed up. Cost is approximately $250/man. We will be using Hampton Dive Center’s pool. Mastic Fire Department will host. Vouchers must be in to Dive Rescue International, by no later than 28 April.  They may be faxed directly to DRI at phone number 1 (970) 482-0893. Letters are to be sent to both the Mastic Beach Fire District, re: our open water portion of the class, held in their district; and to South Country Ambulance, re: request for their boat and crew, for support of the open water portions of the class.

 

Secretary has passed equipment lists on to Coast Guard Long Island Sound.

 

Surf entry class at Mastic Beach; No report.

 

Secretary reminded all about the up-coming move of the Command Staff to Connecticut. Responses will not change; Emergency phone numbers that were used by Group/Sector Field Office Moriches, will not change. An emergency number,  (800) 697-8724,  has been set up, and will take effect sometime in April, or May, for water rescue incidents in Sector Long Island Sound. CG will notify FRES, as has been done in the past, of any water rescue incidents (this will also include the north shore areas). Ltjg Kris Tsairis will be our point man on the other side. LCdr. Tamez, XO of SFO Moriches, will be staying at Moriches, as an administrator for the south shore, but will not be in the SAR chain of command. A radio “listening watch” will be instituted on, or about, 01 April, and on, or about 15 April, all calls to the Coast Guard will be handled by Sector Long Island Sound, in New Haven.

 

Mastic FD pool dive at BNL pool. Please have the names of any members attending this dive, to Craig Diaz (e-mail: diazc@bnl.gov), by Monday, 17 April, so your member’s name can be placed on the Lab’s access list. Persons attending must bring a photo ID, to get in the gate.

 

 

 

New Business:

 

Patchogue’s new fire boat will be in service, as of 01 May.

 

Hagerman has volunteered to take the September meeting. Thank you to them, for offering.

 

Westhampton Beach is reactivating their scuba team. The exact date of return to service is not known, at this time.

Training:

 

 

Dive Rescue 1 will be held 18, 19, 20 & 21 May, 2006.

The following is a correction to the April BAMSAR
minutes:

 The actual price for the Dive Rescue 1 course, for
May 18, 19, 20 & 21, is $380 per man, not $250, as in
the minutes. Secretary regrets the error.
