BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the October, 2004, BAMSAR meeting, held at Bayport. Thanks to Bayport’s SCUBA Team for their hospitality.
Present: Bayport, Bellport, Brookhaven, Mastic, Center Moriches,
Eastport/Southampton Chiefs.
Excused: None.
Old Business:
DR 2 at Eastport went well. Fire News took a bunch of photos. Fourteen guys
went through the class. Scott Rosato, who was not initially registered, provided a
valuable amount of assistance, and was allowed by the instructors to make the
qualifying dive, bringing the number to fifteen. A motion was made, seconded
and carried, that, since he was of so much assistance, his tuition should come
from the rebate awarded to us by DRI.
In light of the fact that the course, and the mechanics of it, are so intense, this
module must be practiced as often as possible. The operation of this evolution will
require multiple resources, from
multiple departments, in order to
get it accomplished.
New Business:
With reference to the
above-mentioned current diving operations,
it was suggested that each team approach their individual departments about
acquiring one or more pieces of gear associated with current diving operations,
and pool all the gear in a central location- one in

Brookhaven FD dive team is up and running again. They are now available to respond to calls.
Mention was made as to the
possibility of running an ice diving course. This would be dependent on how the
winter shakes out. Tim will talk with
We’d like to hold a Dive Rescue 1 course again, in May. The weekend would be the 20th, 21st, and 22nd. Please bring this back to your departments to see what kind of interest there is in it, and bring back your results, next month.
Paul Massey has written up a draft pre-plan for incidents at Moriches Inlet. He brought it to the meeting and reviewed it. A synopsis of the plan is as follows:
1)
East Moriches FD would send a chief to the Coast
Guard Station and set up a unified command post with the Group Commander.
5-7-26 would respond to the scene.
2)
East Moriches Ambulance would respond to the
Coast Guard Station and set up Medical Command.
3)
Center Moriches, Mastic, and Eastport would send
boats to the scene.
4)
5) First FD boat on-scene (regardless of affiliation) will report to East Moriches Command, and act as the on-scene dive command, in conjunction with the Coast Guard boat on-scene.
Paul will be sending the Secretary a hard copy of this draft plan, and the Secretary will disseminate it under a separate letter, to all the chiefs involved, with an address where written comments may be mailed. He’s also been asked, unofficially, to look into developing a preplan for the entire Bay. Hard copies of all minutes are being sent out to all chiefs, and to the Boards of Fire Commissioners which have asked for them.
As our November meeting in Mastic, will be the last for the year, members are asked to come back with which dates/months for which they would like to host a meeting.
