BAMSAR MINUTES


Minutes of the May, 2004, BAMSAR meeting, held at Mastic Beach. Thanks to Chief Biondi for his hospitality.

Present: Brookhaven, Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches, and Westhampton Beach. Gary Kreidler, West End Water/Technical Rescue Coordinator, attended as our guest.
Excused: Patchogue, Bellport and South Country.


Old Business:
DR 1 course: Weekend of 21, 22 and 23 May. Course will be at Mastic Beach. So far, attendance figures shape up as such: Patchogue: 1; Brookhaven: 6; Mastic Beach: 2; Westhampton Beach: 1; East Hampton Police: 1. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Anybody who can help on the days of the course, with serving lunch/breakfast, or as a "go-fer", please let Bill Biondi know as soon as possible.
DR 2 advanced level courses: Swift water module. The course is 3 days. Columbus Day weekend (9, 10 & 11 October) is the anticipated date.

New Business:
We introduced ourselves to Gary Kreidler, and asked how we could help him in his mission. Gary said that he'd like to see all Brookhaven Town teams come together and train with each other, and work together on calls. As what we do, falls under the category of "Technical Rescue", he'd like to see an automatic mutual aid from us to any North Shore team, and vice-versa. This could possibly get us into a region-wide emergency response plan, which could then make some Homeland Security monies available to us, in order to further our mission. Very positive discussion followed.

Training:
Ponquogue Bridge was a good drill (especially for the hungry hound from Center Moriches!). All went well.
Next training is the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of this month. Class will be at the Mastic Beach firehouse, starting at 0730 Friday. Pool work will be at Hampton Dive Center, and open water work will be at Smith Point County Marina.

Next meeting: Thursday, 10 June, 2004, at 1930. We still need a sponsor! We're checking with Bellport and Center Moriches, but if anyone else would like to sponsor the meeting, please get hold of the Secretary, John Foley, at 878-9217, as soon as possible. Thanks.
