BAMSAR MINUTES


Minutes of the July, 2004, BAMSAR meeting, held at South Country. Thanks to Chief Greg Miglino for his hospitality.

Present: Patchogue, South Country, Bellport, Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches, and Westhampton Beach. Welcome to new member, Hagerman Fire Department
Excused: Eastport.


Old Business:
Jim Bowra attended DRI instructor's school in Colorado. He's now an instructor for DRI. Congratulations and best wishes for a successful career!
DR 2 advanced level courses: Swift water module. The course is 3 days. Columbus Day weekend (9, 10 & 11 October) are the dates. So far, it appears that Westhampton Beach will have 2; Center Moriches, 6; Eastport, 4-6; Brookhaven, 3-6, Bellport, 2-3; Patchogue, 2; Mastic Beach, 3; Mastic, 1-3 persons. Course will be advertised nationally, and will be first-come, first-served registration. Tim will order paperwork within the next week.

New Business:
Introduced Chief Randy Miller, of the Hagerman Fire Department. All welcomed him and his department to BAMSAR.
Paid website bill with new check, as ValueWeb didn't receive the last one. Stop payment placed on the original check.
Center Moriches dive truck is back in service. Normal response from now on.
Discussion was held about the possibility of having training certificates printed up, with the BAMSAR logo on them. These would be for having completed courses sponsored by this organization. Randy Miller offered to help in this endeavor.
There will be a large (upwards of 200 participants, mostly kids), "mini sailboat" regatta during the last week in July. It will go for approximately four days, and the course will be from ¼ to ½ mile offshore of Patchogue. EMTs and other help will be needed. Contact Greg Miglino or Pete Barrie if you want to offer your help.


Training:
Mark your calendars! Greg has tentatively named the 8th of November as the day for a Hypothermia Class. He'd like to hold it at South Country Ambulance. He's also going to try to get the class to count toward CME credit.

Correction the thing or event with the little boats is all Pete Barry. We have nothing to do with it. I believe the confusion came out of us doing it two years ago. Its all Patchogue show and I wish them the best of luck.
