Present: Patchogue, Bellport, South Country, Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches, Westhampton Beach.
Guest: Suffolk County Police Marine Division.
Excused: Bayport.
Old Business:
Recertification for the members of the 2001 DRI class will be due in may. DRI will send the mail-in forms.
Cost to those recertifying is approximately $50. Tim to check with Trevor Aronson about a local member of
BAMSAR, such as himself, Mike Buckheit, or Paul Massey, or; Randy Randazzo from HDC, signing us off on
our skills.
DR 1 course: Please bring back, by February's meeting, a head count of all persons wishing to take
Dive Rescue 1. The course will be in may, the date to be announced.
DR 2 advanced level courses: We'd still like to get either light salvage or swift water modules. The
courses are 3 days each. If we get the planning done well enough in advance, we can get a really good
program together.
DUES notices and INFORMATION REQUESTS have been sent out. Please return them as soon as possible. Thanks.
New Business:
Discussion was held with Charlie Abbene, Suffolk Marine Bureau representative, as to what BAMSAR and
the PD could do for each other. Discussions were very positive.
Bellport's Chiefs had some questions about BAMSAR, which were discussed, and the Secretary will write a
letter to Bellport's representative, regarding answers to those questions.
Bill Biondi is taking over the website administration from Tom Fleming. Tom has moved away, and we wish him
well. Many thanks to Tom for all the work he has done with the site.
Hampton Bays water rescue team is now in service. No further information available, though.
The Coast Guard has now set buoys on station in both the East and West Cuts of Moriches Inlet. These buoys
run northerly from the Inlet to the main channel.
