BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the February, 2004, BAMSAR meeting, held at Brookhaven. Thanks to Chiefs Fink and Prince
and the kitchen crew for their hospitality.
Present: Bayport, Patchogue, Bellport, Brookhaven, South Country, Mastic Beach, Center Moriches, Group
Moriches, Westhampton Beach, and Suffolk County Police Marine Division.
Excused: Mastic.
Old Business:
Recertification for the members of the 2001 DRI class will be due in May. DRI will send the mail-in forms. Cost
to those recertifying is approximately $50. Tim to contact Trevor Aronson about a local member of the BAMSAR, such
as himself, Mike Buckheit, or Paul Massey, or, Randy Randazzo from HDC, signing us off on our skills.
DR 1 course: We need to choose from the following weekends; Friday, 30 April through Sunday, 02 May; Friday, 07
May through Sunday, 09 May, or; Friday, 14 May through Sunday, 16 May, as to which one we would like to hold this
course on. Please have answers back by the March meeting. (A separate e-mail will be going out to each team leader
in reference to this subject.) Bill Biondi advises that the Mastic YMCA pool is closing the weekend of 15 May
for up to two years, for badly needed renovations, so this pool might not be available to us.
DR 2 advanced level courses: We’d still like to get the swift water module. The course is 3 days. If we get the
planning done well enough in advance, we can get a really good program together.
Please return your dues as soon as possible. Thanks.
Resource sheets will be compiled by the end of the month and the Secretary will attempt to get them printed on
loose-leaf binder format, so that changes can be made easier. These should be out by the March meeting.
New Business:
Discussion was held with Brookhaven about their team. It is very close to coming back on line. This is welcome
news, and all present assured Brookhaven that they would do what they could to help them out.
Congressman Bishop will be holding a seminar on the writing of grant requests, so that we can apply for Federal
assistance, on Tuesday, the 17th of February, at the Brookhaven Fire Department, at 1900hrs. All welcome.
Check was paid in the amount of $60 for the use of the BNL pool on the 1st of February.
