BAMSAR MINUTES
Minutes of the August, 2004, BAMSAR meeting, held at Patchogue. Thanks to Chief Peter Barrie and Scott Parris for
their hospitality.
Present: Patchogue, South Country, Bellport, Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches, Eastport, Group Moriches, and
Southampton Chiefs.
Excused: Hagerman.
Old Business:
DR 2 advanced level courses: Current diving module. The course is 3 days. Columbus Day weekend (9, 10 & 11
October) are the dates. Westhampton Beach will have 1; Center Moriches, 8; Eastport, 4; Bellport, 3; East Hampton
Town Police, 3; Mastic Beach, 3; Mastic, 2 persons. Course is advertised nationally, and is on a first-come, first-served
registration. Tim signed the paperwork, and will mail it off on Friday. Cost per man is $340. Please get your vouchers
to DRI, as soon as possible. We’ll most likely be diving at Ponquogue Bridge for the in-water part. Classes will
be at the Eastport Fire House.
An unresolved question from 2002 came up, in regard to how we would apportion any refunds/free spots. A motion
was made to resolve the issue, in the following manner: The host agency would receive one free spot, and would
be reimbursed by BAMSAR (at the discretion of the host agency) for any expenses incurred in hosting the class(es).
This was seconded, and approved unanimously.
New Business:
Bryan (B.J.) Coffman (Group Moriches) is leaving us in September, for flight school. We wish him well. It’s been
a pleasure knowing and working with him.
Bill Biondi made a presentation that will be shown to the Brookhaven Town Chiefs, outlining all water rescue resources
in the town. BAMSAR’s information seems to be the most thorough and complete information, received to date.
New York State has grants available. We should look into same.
Training:
Mark your calendars! Greg has tentatively named the 8th of November as the day for a Hypothermia Class. He’d like
to hold it at South Country Ambulance. He’s also going to try to get the class to count toward CME credit.
Eastport FD dive/boat ops., Thursday, 19 August, at 1800, East Cut, Moriches Inlet.
Center Moriches FD dive/boat ops., 0900, Sunday, 29 August. Location: TBA.
Next meeting: Thursday, 09 September, 2004, at 1930, at Eastport FD.
